Formica fusca group (Black Field Ants)

Formica fusca group is a complex of 50+ species. While there is variety, most ants in this group are your average black Formica. Certain species will be sold separately such as Formica neourfibarbis and Formica montana. Species in the Formica fusca group are an extremely aggressive and fast growing species, suited for any ant-keeper. Colonies grow incredibly fast, quickly surpassing 500 workers by the 3 year mark. This species can also be polygynous, meaning they can have multiple egg laying queens at once. This trait contributes to some exponential growth rates. In the wild, these ants prefer open areas with access to lots of heat, such as flat rocks baking in the sun. Sometimes we will have polygynous colonies for sale, if you would like a polygynous colony and we don't have any at the moment please contact us for a special order of them.
