Myrmica rubra (European Fire Ants)

Myrmica rubra (European Fire Ants) are the closest readily available “fire ants” in Canada. These ants are invasive, and produce massive colonies with multiple queens. In areas where they are present they could make up a large majority of ant diversity. Our Myrmica rubra come from the Greater Toronto Area. Colonies of these ants that are found in close proximity may be able to merge, so if you’ve bought a colony from us and would like to add more queens and workers, please contact us to ensure you get ants from a similar range. While we will try our best to make sure they fit together but no guarantees. If your purchase a single queen, please take into account that Myrmica are a semi-claustral genus, and need to be fed during founding.
